Fishponds and their remnants are found throughout the Hawaiian Islands. Moloka`i is known to have many laced upon its coastline while other islands have few scattered along their shores. On Maui, Ko`ie`ie is one of the most accessible and approachable fishponds and is open to the public. Others are privately owned or have barely visible footprints.
